We are pleased to announce the Chiswick Book Festival’s 16th Young People’s Poetry Competition.
It is rewarding to see this initiative reach such a milestone; each year, the competition grows as more schools participate and secure places among our winners. We look forward to building on that momentum this year with both our returning schools and those joining us for the first time.
This Year’s Theme: “Space” 🪐
While this theme is a suggestion rather than a requirement, we hope it provides a spark for your students’ imagination.
The Details:
- Eligibility: Open to poets in School Years 3 – 7.
- Deadline: Thursday 4th June. We hope the submission date gives you sufficient time to build poetry-writing into your summer schedule.
- Originality: To maintain the integrity of the competition, we ask for your support in ensuring all entries are the students’ own original work, completed without adult, teacher, or AI assistance.
- Format: Poems must be a maximum of 25 lines and fit on 1 side of A4 portrait paper.
What’s Next?
I am currently finalising the updated entry forms and digital links. These will be issued to you shortly—so watch this space!
In the meantime, please feel free to share the news with your pupils, parents, teachers and other schools to get the brainstorming started.
If there is a more appropriate contact for this competition at your school, or if your details have changed, or if you have any questions at all, please let me know.
Wishing you and your pupils a creative and productive term ahead.
Kind regards,
Charmaine
